Spate of attacks on Qld emergency workers
Emergency workers in Southeast Queensland have endured a brutal weekend, with several police officers and paramedics being punched, kicked and spat at.
Police say five people have been charged with assaulting police or paramedics following four separate incidents over the weekend.
On Sunday afternoon a 28-year-old woman allegedly kicked three officers and spat blood on a fourth as they were attempting to restrain her at Redbank Plains. [Read more…]
NZ’s Kaitaia firefighters ‘under siege’
Aggression at the scene of motor vehicle accidents has been a fact of life for Kaitaia’s volunteer firefighters for some time, but of recent times crews have struck a new phenomenon, one that Chief Fire Officer Colin Kitchen is no longer prepared to tolerate.
The brigade was increasingly being called to medical emergencies and after the aftermath of violence, and crews were often being abused and threatened by bystanders who blamed them for a “negative outcome.”
The weekend of July 23-24 was the straw that broke the camel’s back, Mr Kitchen said yesterday. The brigade had responded to nine calls in 24 hours, six of them to medical emergencies, and the threats against the volunteers at one of those calls had gone beyond the pale. [Read more…]
Firefighters attacked more than TEN times a week in Britain by thugs throwing bottles, bricks and paving stones

Fire crews in the UK have come under attack more than a thousand times over the past two years, new research has revealed.
This equals more than ten times every week on average, and includes a case of a gang hitting a female firefighter with a paving stone, forcing her to go off sick for eight weeks.
Across Britain, there were 1,063 reported attacks over the two years, with a slight decrease during 2015-16.
There were 70 assaults in Scotland during 2014-15, nearly half of them verbal, but the data for the next year has not yet been published.
The statistics, taken from the last two financial years, include 370 instances of crews coming under attack by yobs throwing objects and 71 cases of physical violence.
The remaining incidents cover verbal abuse and harassment, which have been counted together. [Read more…]
Half-naked man who attacked Melbourne fire truck ‘can’t remember’ doing it
A half-naked man has been filmed ‘attacking’ a fire truck in Melbourne as it was rushing to an emergency.
The man, wearing only shorts, climbed on to the truck roof in an alleged ‘drug-fuelled’ stunt.
