A BRISBANE teenager has punched a police officer in the mouth and tried to run away after allegedly being caught with drugs at Splendour in the Grass.
Officers said they saw a group of men acting suspiciously near an entrance to the festival at the North Byron Parklands at about 5pm yesterday.
“Police allegedly observed some form of exchange and all the males were stopped and spoken to,” read a statement from the Tweed/Byron Police District.
“One of the males, an 18-year-old from Brisbane, was informed that he would be searched.”
As police tried to retrieve a bag from the man he allegedly lashed out and struck a Senior Constable in the mouth before trying to run away.
The man struggled with police before multiple officers arrested him.
When police searched the man they allege they found a number of resealable plastic bags containing white powder, which police allege is cocaine.
Police said he also allegedly possessed a plastic resealable bag of amphetamine and cash.
The man was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with supplying a prohibited drug, two drug possession charges, dealing with the proceeds of crime, assault police and resist police.
He was bailed and is due to appear in the Byron Bay Local Court on September 11.
